Doug Flutie and The
Flutie Brothers Band highlight a spectacular event to raise awareness and
funds for Autism at the Ocean Manor Resort
Fort Lauderdale, FL (June, 22, 2009) Football legend and Hall of Famer Doug
Flutie generated a new field of excitement as the Flutie Brothers band made
their way to the historic Ocean Manor Resort on the Galt Ocean Mile for a
spectacular entertainment showcase.
The shows was held on the eleventh floor rooftop penthouse that boast
magnificent oceanside and city views with wrap a around outdoor terrace. The
high spirited event was hosted by Actor Dennis Cole ("Charlie's
Angels," "The Love Boat," "Murder She Wrote,"
"The Young and the Restless” and "Baywatch") and Miss America
2008 TOC, Becky Willard.
Several special guest appearances were part of the evening’s presentation
that included John Day, whose popularity for years attributed to the allure of
Fort Lauderdale Beach and comedian Gene Merola another longtime area marquee
attraction. Top area sports broadcasters, Lesley Visser and Jeff DeForrest
attended alongside airing an interview with Doug Flutie prior to the show.
Television news stations brought the show into millions of households
facilitating the shows premise of raising awareness and funds for the Doug
Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism, in honor of his son who has the infliction.
Flutie's efforts have help raised over 10 million for autism in less than a
decade. Flutie also created a cereal, Flutie Flakes, with the benefits going
toward the organization.
The Flutie Brothers Band consist of Doug Flutie on drums, with brother Darren
on guitar at the side of a group of accomplished musicians hailing from the
Boston and New York area. The group performed classic rock hits of the 70's
and 80's from such artists as Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Boston, Creedence
Clearwater Revival and Rod Stewart, to name a few.
In 2006 Doug was crowned the NFL's best musician for his appearances with the
Barenaked Ladies group on Monday Night Football which earned him a spot in the
halftime show of the Pro-Bowl. Subsequently Playing the VIP lounge at the last
three Super Bowls and a recent Howard Stern Show.
Ocean Manor Owner, Frank Talerico conveyed to the capacity attendance the need
for parents to be aware and recognize the symptoms of autism that inflicts
approximately 1 in 150 children. Talerico spoke firsthand about the experience
having a child who is borderline autistic. Miss America 2008 TOC, Becky
Willard added "Doug Flutie is the top supporter for autism efforts...
it's great to have events like this that are fun and productive at the same
time."
Musician, Mike Pinera who had a #4 hit in early 70s with the song "Ride
Captain Ride" and was Alice Cooper's guitarist from 1980-1983 closed the
show on a high note.
